Engelstalige boeken; ik ben er gek op. Misschien verwachtte je dat al omdat ik zelf ook mijn boek in het Engels heb gepubliceerd. Natuurlijk kan ik er voor kiezen om Nederlandse vertalingen van boeken te lezen, en dat heb ik ook zeker wel gedaan in het verleden. En toch bleek dat de Engelse versie me meer trok. Vooral omdat de Engelse woorden de exacte woorden van de schrijver zijn. Je leest zijn of haar taalgrapjes en duikt in zijn of haar fantasie. In een vertaling gaat daar toch wat van verloren vind ik.
Over Engelse boeken gesproken; alle Engelse boeken hieronder staan op mijn TBR-lijstje. Ik wil ze allemaal lezen. De meeste boeken kies ik uit op basis van de cover. Jij misschien ook wel. Je wilt toch dat het boek iets uitstraalt, iets ‘zegt’ waardoor je het gaat oppakken.

Het is nu alleen nog de keuze maken welk boek ik als eerste ga oppakken.

Een liefdesverhaal. Dat denk ik gelijk als ik deze cover zie. Twee verschillende werelden die op de een of andere manier bij elkaar komen. De titel suggereert wat sci-fi tinten. Is het wellicht zoiets als de tv-serie Roswell?

Deze cover doet me denken aan een miniserie die ik jaren geleden eens keek. Het ging over een wereld die gelijk was aan de onze, alleen daar was magie en hier niet. Het grauwe van onze wereld, en het kleurrijke – magische- van een andere wereld.

Dit boek valt mij op door de eenvoud. Prachtig lettertype in een gouden kleur dat afsteekt tegen het donkerblauwe van de nacht. Ik krijg het gevoel dat de nacht een thema zal zijn in dit boek. Iets met Goden misschien?

De creativiteit van deze cover is fantastisch. Mooi gebruik van kleuren! Op het eerste gezicht zegt het niet zo heel veel waar het over zou kunnen gaan, maar deze zou me wel aantrekken in een boekenwinkel!

Dit boek doet me denken aan de Percy Jackson serie. Of Harry Potter. Een jongen met krachten. Een jongen die verschil zal maken. Misschien een Chosen One? Hoe dan ook, ik schat in dat dit een boek vol avonturen zal zijn met een hoofdpersonage die moedig is en de nodige obstakels tegen zal komen. Spannend!

Wauw. Deze cover is simpel maar er zit zoveel in. Tovenarij? Magie? Romantiek? Ik zie het allemaal. De subtitel onderaan de cover maakt het alleen nog maar meer intrigerend. Ik denk dat dit een sprookje zal zijn!
